Currently, students are beginning to focus on Leo as an Inventor. We are wondering: Where did his ideas come from? How was he able to imagine so many innovative ideas? Did he ever fail?
We will be looking specifically at Leonardo's Flying Machine and practicing our own innovative thinking. Stay tuned! 2nd Graders are living a "Year in the Life of Leo". We are focusing on Leonardo da Vinci and his innovative thinking. We are examining how the artist and inventor thought like a scientist and mathematician. Check out pictures from our Linear Perspective experiment where we used Leonardo's thinking to make a claim and justify it with evidence when wondering about the solar eclipse!
Invention Fair for SantaOur 1st and 2nd grade "Invention Fair for Santa" was a huge SUCCESS!
We even had a visit from the "man in red" himself! Check out this video that highlights our event. GREAT BRAINS DO GREAT THINGS! |
Leo's Flying Machine LinksCheck out these cool links to learn more about flight as you think like Leonardo da Vinci!
Leonardo was a keen observer. Many of his ideas came from observing flight in nature. What can YOU learn by observing these animals?
Think Like a ScientistLeonardo, as an artist, thought like a scientist! He was a KEEN observer. Students practiced making keen observation as they completed their own artist sketchbook. Check out the pictures of their process.

1st and 2nd grade students began their year challenging and stretching their "out of the box" thinking. We were inspired by the this type of thinking from a little bunny in the story Not a Box, by Antoinette Portis. Students used their own creative thinking and made their own e-book video. Enjoy!
